The Freistil Festival 2024 ‘Heimspiel’ took place from 2 to 13 October 2024 at the World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte. This was the third edition of the festival. Plays, play developments, dance and sound performances, children's theatre, concerts and musical improvisations were performed. Saarland artists, as well as ensembles and collectives from the greater SaarLorLux region and neighbouring regional associations, took part. The supporting programme started on 16 September. Under the title ‘FREISTIL_STADTLABOR’, it offered workshops for city dwellers, children's theatre and stories about medium-sized towns. This created a link between the festival, the town of Völklingen and its inhabitants. A special focus was placed on the involvement of disadvantaged children and young people, in cooperation with local social organisations.
