Intercultural Summer Camp in Spohns Haus Youth Hostel, Saarland
The trinational youth camp at the Spohns Haus ecological school hostel in Gersheim is considered Germany's largest youth exchange project between Poland, Ukraine and Germany and takes place annually in the first two weeks of the Saarland summer holidays. It has become a tradition for many young people, some of whose parents are employed by the Hager Group in the countries mentioned. Many of the 13- to 18-year-old young people take part for several years in a row, resulting in long-standing friendships.
Thanks to the support of the Peter und Luise Hager Foundation, the participation fee can be kept low. Accommodation, meals, supervision, excursions and workshops are included in the price.
Every year, the two-week programme is packed with excursions and joint activities: day trips to other cities (e.g. Paris), language courses, graffiti courses, barbecue evenings and much more.
Traditionally, the Peter und Luise Hager Foundation invites the group to the Hager Group site in Blieskastel on one day for a company and Foundation presentation as well as a factory tour. During the factory tour, the young people also get the chance to visit the Hager Group apprentice workshop and to build a gadget together with the apprentices. Afterwards, we organise an activity for the group - for example, climbing in the Saar Adventure Park or a visit to the Gondwana prehistoric museum in Landsweiler-Reden. The day is usually rounded off with a barbecue in the courtyard of the school hostel and a concert by the Ukrainian music and dance group "Sbrutsch".
