Moderne Galerie Saarbrücken
Promotion of contemporary art projects and exhibitions
When the Modern Gallery (Moderne Galerie) in Saarbrücken reopened in 2017, we began to promote projects and exhibitions of contemporary art in the gallery's rooms.
The Californian artist Pae White realised a colourful exhibition called "Spacemanship" in the same year, see left picture below. After Pae White, Giuseppe Penone was the second internationally active artist to design the impressive, up to 14m high exhibition space in the center of the extension of the Gallery with a site-specific installation.

On July 10th, 2021 the exhibition of the British artist Claire Morgan named "Claire Morgan - Joy in the Pain" has been opened. The exhibition will be open to the public at the Moderne Galerie in Saarbrücken until February 6th, 2022. "Joy in the Pain" shows room installations made of stuffed animals and plastic scraps. Specifically for the museum's 14-meter-high atrium, the artist has created a giant whale out of countless blue plastic scraps.

Further information on the artists and their exhibitions:
Pae White (born 1963 in Pasadena, California). For the reopening of the Gallery, Pae White realised a spectacular exhibition: the largest manifestation of her art in Europe to date, conceived especially for the occasion. In doing so, the artist explored the possibilities offered by the museum's generously proportioned extension in a surprising way. The high, cathedral-like space was transformed into a vast vessel of pulsating shapes and colours. The peculiar magic of White's work, which combines traditional and artful craftsmanship with unusual materials, has rarely been experienced so viscerally.
Giuseppe Penone (born 1947 in Garessio/Ponte, Piedmont) is one of the most important and influential representatives of contemporary Italian art. He was honoured with solo exhibitions all over the world, participated in the documenta and the Venice Biennale several times, and received the Praemium Imperiale in 2014, the most important prize for contemporary art. Penone's aesthetics are based on a dialogue with nature and its forces and revolve around the question of the limits of one's own body and the limits of one's own perception. In Saarbrücken, the solo exhibition showed works from the creative periods since 1979.
